The complex of San Tommaso is located in the south-eastern quadrant of the historic city center of Pavia. Originally considered a medieval monastery, the complex was occupied by nuns before (IX-X century), by Dominican friars after (XIII century) and also hosted the headquarters of the Inquisition Court. Read, the entire complex is converted into barracks and from the end of the 700 until the last years of the last century was occupied by military sectors. Following the acquisition by the University of Pavia, work began on the recovery and restoration of the entire complex to obtain the headquarters of the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy, still in use today. Through conservative restoration works, restoration and technological and plant modernization, the building structure has been adapted to the needs required by the new use.
